About me
Leah Mayo currently serves as the College of Health & Human Services’ Center for Healthy Communities Coordinator, Co-director of the North Carolina Public Health Training Center, part-time Public Health faculty, and a freshman advisor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. As Center Coordinator, Leah works with community partners to enhance authentic university and community relationships to address health equity and improve the health and wellbeing of southeastern North Carolina. Her previous roles within local health departments have instilled her knowledge and passion for the built environment and addressing the root causes or social determinants of health to create meaningful, positive, and sustainable change collaboratively. Leah received her undergraduate degree at UNC Wilmington and Master of Public Health at East Carolina University. She is a UNCW Diversity and Inclusion Fellow, is credentialed as a Master Certified Health Education Specialist, serves as President of the North Carolina Public Health Association, and Co-president of the North Carolina Society of Public Health Education.
